Being born in Nigeria in the late 80s I grew up seeing the final vestiges of the parts of Nigeria that made it respected. I grew up around God fearing, loving and caring people who helped raise me alongside my parents. Uncles and aunties and even my childhood friends then, we were all filled with morals that made us fear evil and hate anything that created evil in the world. Once upon a time Nigerian ladies were not known for prostitution, once upon a time Nigerian men weren’t known for kidnapping, fraud or violence. In those days, everywhere I went the Nigerian name carried a lot of respect with it. The first time I traveled outside Africa that I can remember, it was in April of the year 2000, I went to Lome Togo, I loved the country and the people, in those days no one called me a Nigerian with hate in their eyes, in those days I was just a black child that could not speak french. This was the same even when we moved to Cotonou Benin, a country I still have so much love for, up till today.
Question remains, what happened since then till now that Nigerians have been relegated to second class citizens in any African country they find themselves? As we speak today in almost every African country you must find some of our women selling their bodies in that society, many of our boys are loud and causing mayhem, what has happened in Nigeria and how has this affected the younger generation and those that are around us?
The bible says that before the destruction of any nation, the daughters of that nation must descend into prostitution and perversion the order of the day. Is this a sign that Nigeria is dying? Is this a sign for those Nigerians that see to disassociate themselves with Nigeria? Is this the end of Nigeria?
Nigeria has been a major part of Africa’s development both in wars, lack and peacemaking, we have assisted our neighbors to the best of our ability, the innovation of the people of Nigeria has brought to most of Africa enlightenment and prosperity, in commerce, entertainment and manufacturing but in Nigeria’s darkest hour, our neighbors have sent our people to jail just for being Nigerians, our neighbors have taken our properties by force and killed us, our neighbors have shown us no justice when we brought cases to their judiciary systems, our women raped because they are Nigerians, the offspring of Nigerians victimized in childhood by those who are supposed to teach them because they carry Nigerians blood in them. I believe we are slowly seeing the eradication of Nigerians all over Africa. Nigeria draws her final breath, She is dying…
Our women have gone all over the world to sell their bodies for money, yes many of our young boys can be rash and unruly but this few does not reflect the vast majority of Nigerians who are living and dying amongst you, trying just as hard as you or even harder to make it. How can Africa rationalize the brutality and mistreatment of 1000 people based on the crimes or 10? We all run to america and Europe to create a better life but the white man who is supposed to be racist treats Nigerians with more dignity than our African brothers treat us.
We are in prisons and our offense is that we are Nigerian, offered no jobs because we are Nigerians but when we beat the odds and survive then they come and burn and loot our shops, our only crime? We are Nigerian.
Despite the mistreatment of Nigerians around Africa, our government remains continually silent, our celebrities making and reacting to only funny videos… We are doomed as Nigerians and even if our neighbors have not been very nice to us, the final nail on the coffin of Nigeria will come from its people because of our culture of silence in the face of evil and our ideology of suffering and smiling.
